Introduction

Being a manager for the first time can be an exciting yet daunting task and requires a whole new set of skills and competencies. Your people may be very competent at their profession, and now they need to manage and drive performance through others. Knowing where to start can be a daunting prospect. This course will give first time managers all the tools they need to set them on a successful path to effective management and leadership. Not only will they explore their early challenges and how to get started to build solid foundations, but they will get the opportunity to learn off like-minded peers, have access to the tools and techniques and access to a unique combination of online learning and training to build confidence in their ability to lead and manage successfully.

  1. The Role of a Manager and Getting Started – Explore the role of a manager and some key conversations you need to get off to a great start and manage expectations.
  2. Different Management Styles – Identify different management styles and the impact they can have on getting the best out of your team.
  3. Effective Communication – Understand the role for effective communication and ways to ensure robust communication across your team.
  4. Performance Management – Understand the performance management cycle and identify ways to motivate, engage and inspire your team.
  5. Delegation and Feedback – Know how to delegate and explore the value of giving and receiving feedback.
  6. Introduction to Coaching – Explore the value coaching can have on empowering and developing team members and try out some key coaching skills.
  7. Time Management and Prioritisation – Identify how to manage your time more effectively and prioritise as a manager.
  8. Management Challenges and Action Learning – Explore key management challenges and the role for emotional intelligence.
